The HD DVD version of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will have a new feature called “community screening.” You can watch a movie simultaneously with your friends while you’re each at your own place. You can also chat via the remote.

TiVo has clearly seen the light after years of pushing rather high-end, high-priced HD DVRs out its doors. The company disclosed in its Q1 earnings call that a reduced-cost version of the TiVo Series 3 is on the way, and not a moment too soon.

“Total Hi Def” DVDs feature HD DVD on one side, Blu-ray on the other

Warner Brothers will be making some of its films available on “Total Hi Def” DVDs, the company announced at a CES presentation on Tuesday. The discs are, ingeniously, HD DVD on one side and Blu-ray on the other.
The combo discs are the same size as always, but contain both single and dual layers for both formats.
