A tipster sent us these spy pics of what he says is the upcoming cheap version of the TiVo Series 3 personal video recorder, which is rumored to be a sub-$300 HDTV digital recorder to be available this fall. The spy tells us this is a prototype of the forthcoming box, and if you squint, you can see two CableCARD slots

TiVo Series 3 to be released September 17th, for $799?

According to a tipster Todd who works for Best Buy, the TiVo Series 3 might be out of beta soon and is now showing up in their system. According to the computer It is scheduled to be in stock on September 17th with a Best Buy SKU of 7974418 (UPC of 400079744186 and Model TCD648250B). The price is listed at $799, but the street date field is blank.

The judge just ruled, and I posted the court document hot of the presses. Most Dish DVRs must be shut down within 30 days and TiVo picks up a cool 10 mil.

According to posts on both Gizmodo and Zatz Not Funny, TiVo has sent a letter to the FCC and cable operators notifiying them that testing has started on the Series3 HD CableCARD units and they should be released to retail stores soon.
Text from the letter states:
The TiVo Series3 HD DVR product supports up to two CableCARD decoders. This product acts as two independent single stream UDCP CableCARD hosts within one set top box. It can also be configured to operate as a single CableCARD device.
This product is currently being tested by a small number of consumers in cable markets across the country, and will be generally available in retail stores soon. Thus, we wanted to ensure that you are aware of this product in time to make any necessary preparations to support customers who request two CableCARD decoders for their TiVo Series3 HD DVR.

TiVoDesktop 2.3 Now Supports Schedule Transfers & iPod,Treo,PSP Conversion

TiVo just released version 2.3 of TiVoDesktop. This version is a long awaited upgrade which includes the ability to schedule transfers as well as the capability to convert TiVo recordings into a format that mobile devices such as an iPod, Treo & PSP can play. In order to perform this conversion, you will have to pay a one time fee of $24.95.

Both Amazon.com and Circuit City are now taking orders for the new 80 hour dual tuner Series2 boxes. Current price is $249. The sites make no mention of a rebate but reading the press release from TiVo there should be a $150 mail in rebate available on Monday.
